Ten Years Later, Classic Shooter MDK2 Returns
Interplay's hit hit man is reverting to PCs and consoles ten eld after it was first released.
Remember MDK2? That really fun shooter developed by a fledgling developer called BioWare and released by Interplay? You know, that game where you played as a janitor with a precision rifle, a six-armed dog, and a chiropteran$#!+ crazy mad man of science? Well, hazard what? It's coming to the Wii and PCs in HD.
Late last week, Interplay announced that the game was being revamped for a winter publish on WiiWare, while MDK2 HD will arrive on PCs at an unspecified date afterwards. No ontogeny studio has been named to handle the game's revamp. That said, the game wish be sold for the PC by Beamdog (a digital statistical distribution service), but the distributor will plain have some involution with the re-release's development.
"MDK2 was a expectant form of address to work on and we're happy to consume several of the original team working on these new versions" said Trent Oster, Centennial State-founder of Beamdog, when the gritty was announced. It should be noted that Oster was a co-founder of BioWare, too, and MDK2 was cardinal of the first-year games that BioWare formed.
Interplay's re-emergence later on its near-death experience in 2005 has been a slow affair, but the publisher's strategy seems to beryllium relying on a lot of nostalgia and goodwill from older gamers. It's not a bad idea, but it seems a bit risky: Aside from Fallout and Baldur's Gate, there aren't too many household names in the publisher's catalogue. That said, I certainly have some fond memories of playing MDK2 when I should have been doing homework, so I can't say that I'm not looking for wise to this hi-def re-let go of.
If you'Re curious about MDK2 or its predecessor, you can filling the original versions up on Steam clean (thanks The_root_of_all_evil!).
